Facebook

This isnt really London related, but very much community related. Bill got me going on Facebook, and without any effort on my part i have been in touch with more than a dozen people i havent spoken too since i left public school in 1995, very cool.

Geek Dinner in London – Hows April 4th?

So in a effort to make progress on getting something put together I’ve picked a date. April 4th, is that good for any/everyone. We can change this but I figure we have to start somewhere. I have added an event on Facebook, though I don’t know who all is on there, so if you are and someone you know is interested invite them! Next we need to pick a venue, so start doing some research.

Geek Dinner in London

So I want to try and set up a dinner. First thing I guess we need is a date. My thoughts are that a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night would be best. I figure that because most venues wouldn’t be real busy and I think most people can make that sort of a commitment. I do realize that it may result in people going home earlier as they will have to be up for work but I do too and it won’t stop me. We could change this if we come to a consensus. Next is a venue. Anyone have an idea for a place that we can get a bit of our own space, out of the way of other patrons? Another asset to a venue would of course be Wi-Fi. There would probably be a lot of things traded off (like food and seating, but not drinks) to get some Internet Access! Then of course who is going to come. I guess upcoming.org or MeetUp would be a good place to start but of course anyone, registered or not, would be welcome. Then we have to get the word out. So start posting to your Blogs, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Jaiku, where ever you can. Let’s get something started! By the way April 6-9 is no good for me as I will be attending PodCamNYC!

My toughts so far on BlogLDN

Let me first say thanks to Dan for starting to help out posting content here. Thanks also to everyone who has shown interest and commented on the site. There has been some other interest by people to provide content to the site about events going on. I hope at least some of them pan out. I do really want this to become more then just a place to find out whats going on in the next couple days at a couple of venues. There is so much more going on that needs to be advertised. I hope also to get some interesting political views and business happenings in our great city. There is a lot of potential to set up a great community here! If you are interested in contributing here (I don’t mind cross posting) please e-mail me and well get you set up. By the way is anyone interested in setting up a “Geek Dinner” to get together?

Family Fun Fest

I took the kids to the funfest last weekend. To my surprize, all of us, My self included had a great time. The midway was geared more to children than i expected and the Bowmanville Zoo put on a wonderfull show. The kids got to chose between elephant and camel rides, Andre rode the camel while Olivia, Liam and Myself rode the elephant. All in all it was a great time, and really, for all day entertainment, it was really reasonably priced, 2 adults and 3 kids and it was under 60 dollars. I will be going back next year

Next Door Results

So we had dinner at Next Door the other night and I have to say I don’t know if it’s a place I will hurry back to any time soon. The entry way that opens into the bar area is quite impressive when you first walk in but soon after the effect wears off and I lothed the waste of space. I think the layout of the dining area wastes so much space and it makes everything feel cramped. It felt like we were eating dinner with the couple at the next table. My next point of displeasure was the wine glasses. The wine menu was quite nice but the enjoyment was removed when it was served in a glass that does not allow for full enjoyment of the wine. The glass was more of a deep martini glass rather then a bowled wine glass. It killed all the aroma in what I think is a very nice wine (Gray Fox Cabernet Sauvignon 2005) . That appatisers were very good, we split the crab cakes and a ceaser salad, both of which were excelent. I had orderd the Steak and it was well over done for a medium rare steak. Michelle, who likes Med. Well to Well done, whoud not have sent it back. The Mashed potatoes that accompanied it were very good and the asparagus and vegitable were cooked to perfection. I probably will not go back for quite some time but I will give the some time and see if they approve. Anyone else been to either Next Door or Crave have an experiance to share?

Crave and Next Door

I really like Crave in North London. I’ve been a few times and I have had really great experiences there. I was excited when I saw they were expanding into the unit next to them with what the call a sister restaurant. I think we really need a lot more restaurant in London that cater to this type of dining. The expansion is called, oddly enough, Next Door Bar & Grill. I haven’t been there, or to Crave for that matter, since it open so I looked them up and gave them a call to make reservations. Now call me crazy but on their website it says, and I quote, “Call today for a reservation 519.645.8886″. So I just got off the phone and they guy there told me we don’t accept reservations its all on a first come first served basis only. I think that whole idea is a cop out so they don’t overbook and piss people off but that’s there prerogative and a lot of place are doing that so I’ll put up with it, but they should at least not have the line on their website saying they do! Anyways I think I am going to be heading over there tonight and I’ll let you know how it is in the morning!

Weekend Update

I don’t think I’ll be out much on the weekend but there is a bit going on in London. At the JLC both Saturday and Sunday Monster Jam will be blasting around the small track and the Fair Ground has some more family fun with the Family Fun Fest on the same days. Also check out the London Music Clubs Schedule for the loads of stuff going on there. Speaking of the London Music Club did anyone go to the Andy Sheppard Show last Friday? I’d love to hear feedback on how it was!
